Thanksgiving Traditions

For as long as I can remember, Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday. It’s my favorite because I always get to see family I don’t see often, I love to eat, and it feels like the kick off to Christmas.

The older I get the more into Thanksgiving I become because I get to host and cook for it. I love to cook. I will try out new Pinterest recipes and try to get them picture perfect. For the most part I’d give Martha a run for her money.

Here are some of my favorite traditions :

1) Family – My family has always been the most important thing to me and spending time with them is the best. We laugh and we cry, but most of all we have a ball. Literally just hanging out either playing games like spades or dominoes. Some watch football and other just relax and enjoy each other’s company.

2) Food – I know, Thanksgiving is a lot about the traditional feast. Everyone once and a while, we switch it up and add a Mexican flare to ours. Enchiladas, chimichangas, and rice & beans. Yum! We still have most of the traditional foods when you think of Thanksgiving. It’s nice to make it our own.

3) Christmas Parade – For almost my entire adult life I’ve been attending the Grafton Thanksgiving/Christmas parade. This is generally the Saturday after Thanksgiving. My daughter for the last 7 years have been in the parade either for Girl Scouts or Cheerleading.

We also watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade on TV on Thanksgiving. Seeing all the floats and huge balloons is always so exciting.

4) Thankful Game: When I would host I’d buy a banner that was blank to fill out and ask everyone to take one and write down something they are thankful for. Then we’d hang it up and read them. It’s fun to see what everyone would write.

Shop the Thankful Banner here.

I know my husband and I can not wait for pumpkin pie. Last year I made this delicious Pumpkin Cheesecake recipe. It was so quick and easy.

What are some of your Thanksgiving traditions? When I was a kid we would eat and then go bowling. Maybe that’s something I need to bring back.

Are you cooking or hosting? I have the year off from hosting, but I am in charge of the Cheesy potatoes and spinach artichoke dip.

Have a fantastic Thanksgiving!! I am beyond grateful for all my followers and taking the time out of your day to read my blog!

Game Day Gear

Ready, set, hike! I’ve always loved a good theme to dress up to. So, why should your favorite team gear be any different?

I’ve put together some of my game day gear for you. Ok I know we may not cheer for the same teams but the idea of dressing up is the same. We all love to show our team colors.

Accessories are your best friend when sporting your team. You can look so put together just by throwing on a leather jacket or a cute necklace. Or keep it simple by adding your favorite Converse and baseball cap.

Also, one of my pro-tips: shop at the end of the game season for sale items. Most of the time buying anything sports related can be expensive, so waiting for the sales is smart. Some of my favorite pieces were on sale and no one has them.

Another pro-tip for grade school to High School sports team is the buy a general sports shirt. For example: my daughters middle school sports team is the Falcons and the High School is the Black Hawks. So I bought a shirt with Grafton on it, so it lasts throughout her school career.

Whether you are tailgating, attending the game, or watching from home, you can cheer on your team in style!
